Three truck drivers have been shot dead and four others injured after unknown assailants opened gunfire on them while carrying vegetables from Bawku to Accra.
The tragic incident is reported to have happened on Tuesday, 14, 20 kilometres from Bawku town.
Survivors, who are now receiving treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital said they took the risk to drive out of Bawku with the vegetables (pepper and tomatoes) after the police refused to grant them escort out of this community.
One of the survivors, Kwaku Karl, 44 told Kumasi-based Luv FM that he was with his son, Kofi Karl, 22, when the shooting started and they had to lay on the floor of cargo.
Unfortunately, the sporadic bullets hit his son to death.
Another survivor, Haruna Issah said;
They chased us right after we got into the community. After releasing multiple gunshots at us, we were forced to hide under the car seats but even with that, my driver could not survive and my other mate is receiving treatment.
So far it is not clear who the assailants were or their motive.
