Akufo-Addo leaves for France for 6-day work visit

President Akufo-Addo left the country on Saturday 8th October 2022 to France for a six-day working visit.

Akufo-Addo is accompanied by the First Lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo, Minister of Foreign Affair, Hon. Shirley Ayokor Botchwey, Education Minister, Bosumtwe MP, and other Presidency officials.

In this trip, the President will receive an Award of Honoris Causa from Sorbone University in Paris on Monday 10th October 2022. This will be the third Honorary Doctorate conferrred to Akufo-Addo after the first and second one which were conferred on the President in 2016 for Honorary Doctor of Law Degree by the Fort Hare University of South Africa and Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters Degree from the University of Liberia in 2017 respectively.

Also, as part of this trip, Akufo-Addo will address the Asia Society Forum on the theme, To Act in Troubled Times; new perspectives from France, Asia, Africa and the world.

He will also commission refurbished Chancery building of Ghana’s Embassy in Paris.

Sharing part of the Presidency press statement;

Before receiving the Honorary Doctorate from Sorbonne University, the President will address the Executive Board of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) at its 215th Session.

The President is expected to return to Ghana on Friday, 14th October 2022.

Vice-President Bawumia will be in charge of the country in the absence of the President as per Article 60 (8) of the Constitution.
