Mpatasie D/A JHS assistant headmaster in the Amansie South District of the Ashanti Region has lost his life after falling into a mining pit while on his visit to his mining concession.
Identified as Akwasi Anane, the deceased was 47-year old when he died on October 4, 2022.
The unfortunate incident has been confirmed by the District Coordinator for the National Disaster Management Organization for Amansie South, Edward Oduro Nsiah.
The deceased is said to have been on his routine visit to the site at around 9 p.m on October 4. He mistepped and fell into the abandoned pit where he met his untimely death.
The rescue team managed to remove him from the pit but it was too late as he was pronounced dead immediately.
Sharing Edward Oduro Nsiah’s statement;
He is a teacher and he also has a concession so he went to the site very late. He stood on top of the pit and in an attempt to make a step he slipped and fell into the pit. His body has been deposited at the St. Martin’s Hospital at Agroyesum.
The fight against galamsey is not paying off. For instance when you come to Amansie South nearly 80 % of the indigenes are into illegal mining. In the last two months, we have lost at least six lives at separate locations and that is very worrying.
