Former Secretary of the New Patriotic Party Party (NPP), Kwabena Agyapong, has disclosed that Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia was not a member of NPP in 2008.

According to Agyapong, Bawumia was not a qualified candidate as NPP running mate but the party gave him benefits of the doubt, an act which caused argument and misunderstanding among NPP members in 2008.

One of the main requirement to qualify as a NPP running mate in the presidential election is that one must be a party member for 5 years before contesting for the position.

Agyapong is however convinced Bawumia had not met this qualification because he was not a member of NPP in 2008.

Sharing his statement;

In 2008, Dr. Bawumia was not a member of the party. We have been very charitable with Dr. Bawumia. If not for the respect we have for President Nana Addo Dankwo Akuffo Addo, we would not have allowed Dr. Bawumia to be the running mate.

I was there at the National Council meeting. I can state on authority that that executives were quarreling as to why Nana Addo could not get anyone but Bawumia.

We later later gave Nana Addo the benefits of the doubts. We have done well for you. To be the Vice President is something. You must be very with it.
