Former President John Mahama has said that Ghana should never again go for the International Monetary Fund (IMF) bailout.
Mahama emphasized that the next government after the current New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration should make sure the country doesn’t go to the IMF again.
He believes that Ghana is capable to create sustainable policies to stabilize the economy without going to IMF.
Mahama said this in an interview with VOA on Wednesday on matters macro-economic stability and government’s borrowing spree.
Sharing some of his statement;
This should be last time we got to go the IMF. Going and coming really creates a certain instability in the whole system and it also reduces the faith that people have in our democracy.
Mahama further said he has not yet decided to contest for 2024 general elections.
It’s good to keep your opponent guessing so even if I’m not running, I’m not going to say I’m not running. So decision will be taken early next year in the first quarter. That’s when we hold our party’s primaries for the presidential candidacy and then we will see.
