IMF group expected to land in Ghana on Wednesday July 6

by News Reporter

It is no longer news that Ghana President Akufo-Addo, on July 1, 2022, approved his government’s decision to seek help from the International Monetary Fund (IMF). According to Asaase News, a team from IMF is expected to land in Ghana on Wednesday, July 6, 2022, and immediately begin deliberations with the government concerning ideal packages to support the country’s struggling economy. IMF officials will be received by the Finance Ministry, the Presidency officials, and the Economic Management Team, whereby they are expected to discuss the modalities for a suitable package to boost the economy. The IMF team will stay for one week in Ghana.

Among the IMF officials coming to Ghana include Senior Fund Officials and local staff, some which are based in Ghana.

Since the government’s decision to go for IMF, citizens of Ghana have raised mixed reactions, where some are majorly concerned on the impact IMF programme will have on public sector jobs. Others think IMF support may bring solutions to the economic challenges in the country. Some citizens also feel the government should scrap e-levy since it seems insignificant in raising the country’s revenue.
