As Chairman of the Christian Council of Ghana and Moderator, Rt. Rev. Prof Joseph Obiri Yeboah has made it clear to the public that it is not his duty to support the opposition party to fight the government. Instead, his religious leadership requires him to support and help the government in every activity.

Sharing the post, moderator said;

As a moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, it is not my duty to join opposition. No! No! No! No! It is my duty to help every government no matter which government it is to succeed and I will do my best to help government to succeed and pray for this government that the government will succeed and do better to the glory of God.

The moderator made this comment after complaints from the public that religious leaders have been silent while the country is currently facing many problems including police brutality, corruption, misuse of resources, and many others. Despite all these issues Rev. Prof. Joseph Obiri still believes he should continue supporting the government in power and not NDC party.

Moderator’s statement has since received mixed reactions from citizens of Ghana where the majority feel as a Christian, the moderator should support the party doing the right thing for the people of Ghana whether it is the government in power or not. Among the people that criticized Rev. Joseph Obiri’s comment include his colleague, the General Superinted of Assemblies of God Church Ghana, Rev. Prof. Paul Frimpong Manso in an interview with the media in Koforidua where he said that Rev. Joseph Obiri should speak up against the wrongs in the country.

According to Rev. Paul Frimpong, God calls religious leaders to be the voice of the voiceless. For this reason, keeping silence or supporting the government even when they are wrong is not service to the people of Ghana.
