One Ghanaian delegate is reported to be among the missing athletes and delegates after the 2022 Commonwealth Games in the UK, Birmingham.
The UK police report shows that the number of missing persons has risen to 17 , and this includes 13 athletes and four others who were with individual teams.
The good news is that out of the 17 missing people, 9 of them have been found.
The remaining missing people who are yet to be seen are Ghanaians including a delegate and five others from Sri Lanka.
The UK police states that also both competitor from Botswana and another one from Cameroon vanished, but they have since been located.
The police are collaborating with immigration officials to assure the wellbeing and safety of everyone who has been found.
Sharing the statement of a force spokesperson;
We’ve received a total of 17 missing people reports from visiting Commonwealth Games delegations.
13 competitors and four other delegation members. Of those, nine have since been found and eight remain outstanding.
We are making enquiries alongside immigration officials to ensure they are safe and well.
History shows this is not the first time a Ghanaian athlete or delegate has gone missing after the Commonwealth Games.
In 2018 during Australia games, two athletes were confirmed by the Badminton Association of Ghana to have escaped from camp as they did not return with the contingent.
The two athletes were Gifty Mensah and Stella Amasah who went missing in Australia after games.
