Pregnant mother and her two children burnt to death at Ohwim

A pregnant mother and her two kids have lost their lives following fire outbreak at their home at Ohwim in Kumasi yesterday, Monday night.

It’s unfortunate the family got trapped in their rooms when the fire started, leading to their death.

The deceased is identified as Philomena Osei, whose body together with that of her two young boys have been deposited at the morgue of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

According to the residents, such fire outbreak burning homes is the third in a short period. For this reason, some suspect arson.

The residents tried their best to contact National Fire Service but they couldn’t save the situation upon their arrival as a result of severity of the fire.

Philomena’s eldest daughter was in another room, hence managed to escape the terrible incident.

The daughter said she attempted to rescue the mother and young brothers but the metallic door to their room was extremely hot to break in.

Police, NADMO, and Fire Service team have since visited the scene, but are yet to establish the cause of the fire.

Preliminary investigations are currently going on.

Ashanti Regional Fire Commander, ACFO Henry Giwah has advised people to have alternative exit points in their homes incase of such incidents.

Properties at the late Philomena’s house are burnt beyond recognition.
