Today, August 3, 2022, Akufo-Addo will be inaugurating the renovated Sunyani Airport.
The opening of Sunyani Airport will ease movement to Sunyani via air because the commercial flights will resume that route.
As a result of renovation, the runway has been extended from 1280 meters to 1400 meters. This means the airport can now accommodate the medium-sized jet planes.
Once the president opens the airport officially, local airline companies can now operate their jet planes to the airport.
The government has stated that Sunyani airport being in the middle belt of Ghana, has influenced construction of internal roads, an apron, and renovation of terminal building.
The progress of all this construction to date, according to the government, is 97 %.
Originally, the Sunyani Airport was constructed as an Airstrip and later upgraded in 1969 into an airport.
Currently, Sunyani has a total runway length of 1520 meters made up of 1400 meters paved and 60 meters unpaved Runway End Safety Area (RESA) at both ends.
