President Akufo-Addo made a promise to God in 2016 after winning presidential elections that he will build a national cathedral as a way of honoring Him. While this project has had many controversies, its construction has already begun and according to Deputy Finance Minister, Dr. John Kumah, this pledge made by Akufo-Addo is a national pledge.
Dr. Kumah stated that the President cannot use his money to build the cathedral. He said this while speaking on Joy FM’s Newsfile;
If the President makes a pledge, it is also a national pledge. We cannot expect the President to use his own pocket money.
Dr. Kumah also mentioned that there have been many lies going around about the national cathedral projects twisted to turn the citizens of Ghana against the government. Among them include a claim that Sonnie Badu was paid $50,000 for his appearance on a fundraising event of the national cathedral.
There is so much propaganda… people are throwing in all all sorts of things including lies. I just recently heard that we paid some $50,000 to Sonnie Badu for his appearance on one of the fundraising events for the national cathedral which turned out to be false. He has come out to deny it.
