Deputy Minister of Finance, John Kumah has expressed his support to the government to privatize the Saglemi housing project.
This project is located in Prampram in the Ningo Prampram District in the Greater Accra Region.
Earlier, Minister of Works and Housing, Francis Asenso Boakye announced that the Saglemi housing project plans will be handed over to private developers to refurbish the units and sell them to potential owners.
According to Asenso, the government is not in a position to make further development in this project, hence it’s better to pave way for private developers to take over.
He further said the funds generated from the sale of Saglemi Housing project will be reinvested into another housing project.
John Kuma supported this proposal by saying the following while speaking on JoyNews;
The project is no longer affordable per the arrangement that has happened to it because if you divide $200 million by 10,000, you are going to get it at $10,000 and they reviewed it to 1,500 housing units which makes it up from $40,000 to $50,000 per unit. So how affordable can that be?
So in the present circumstances, the best option is to bring the private sector in.
