Protesters storm Sri Lanka president’s residence

Thousands of Sri Lankans protesters have stormed President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s residence, which is located in the country’s capital city, Colombo.

They travelled from all over the country and marched to Colombo demanding the resignation of the president.

The country has been experiencing rampant inflation, hence unable to import basic needs like fuel, food, medicine, and etc.

Some protesters went ahead to explore the president’s residence including swimming in his pool while others entered kitchen to sample his food.

According to reports, the president has been moved from to a safer place.

Police attempted to prevent the angry crowd from accessing the residence by shooting in the air but were unable to stop the protesters.

The country’s prime minister, Ranil Wickremesinghe, has summoned an emergency meeting of Sri Lanka’s political parties’ leaders to discuss the ongoing protest. The prime minister has also ordered the speaker to convene the Parliament.
