The Ghana Education Service (GES) has stated that schools will remain open as usual despite the ongoing teachers’ strike in the country. Yesterday, Monday, July 4, 2022, four teacher unions, mainly Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), the Coalition of Concerned Teaches (CCT), and the Teachers and Educational Workers’ Union (TEWU), declared countrywide strike for both teaching and non-teaching staff. GES announcement therefore came after teacher unions decision of laying down their tools since the government failed to meet Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) demands.

GES has further invited teacher unions leaders for a meeting to discuss the way forward concerning schools’ operation. GES has also requested parents to remain calm as the situation is sorted and that all basic schools will remain open. Assuring parents of their children safety, GES has indicated that Regional and District Directors to ensure children reporting to school are supervised.

Sharing GES statement;

Meanwhile, parents are advised to remain calm and be assured that Management is closely monitoring the situation and will advise on the way forward accordingly.
