Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has issued a statement that Ghana land borders have been put on high alert by security agencies after the jailbreak of over 400 inmates Boko Haram members in Abuja, Nigeria.
According to Comptroller-General of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS), the officials especially at the land boarder should be vigilant in order to prevent some of these Boko Haram inmates from entering Ghana.
The memo by GIS stated;
Official reports indicate at least 443 out of 879 inmates that escaped as a result of the break are still on the run.
It is believed that the Jihadists group Boko Haram are behind the attack which saw the use of high-end explosives and guns, that freed all 64 Boko Haram linked Inmates at the prison and are among the escapes who are still on the run.
The Ghana Immigration Service has said that there is high migration trends of Nigerians to Ghana currently, hence it’s likely that these inmates may consider entering Ghana, through both approved and unapproved routes.
Considering current migration trends of Nigerians within the sub-region, it is likely most of the escapees will attempt to enter Ghana through both approved and unapproved routes.
In the view of the above, I am directed to inform you to institute stringent measures at all Points of Entry and intensify patrols to deter and intercept all escapees who will attempt to infiltrate the country.
Immigration officials already have received some of the images of these Boko Haram escapees for easy identification as shown below.
Ghanaians have been warned to be vigilant and report any suspicious person to nearby security.
