Shocking trend has emerged of young people invading cemeteries to steal human bones and use it to prepare a concoction, which is believed to induce a state of intoxication.
The disturbing practice is reportedly prevalent in Sierra Leone as footage below shows numerous graves being dug open and human remains of deceased being stolen.
Report by 4News Channel, Freetown, says the locals have raised an alarm and formed a vigilante group called ‘Friends of the Dead’ to protect the cemeteries against invasion and theft of human remains.
The report further indicates over a thousand graves have been destroyed and human bones stolen, which are then mixed with other chemicals to make a concoction locally known as ‘Kush’. It’s a substance that youth smoke to get high.
Mental health expert, Dr Jusu Mattia, from Sierra Leone spoke to 4News reporters concerning the new craze, which he described as disheartening. He explained that human bones contain sulfur, and when combined with other chemicals, the resulting mixture, Kush, can indeed induce intoxication.
