Tragedy at Gomoa Okyereko: 16 dead, over 40 injured in road accident

Sixteen people are feared dead in a road accident at Gomoa Okyereko on the Accra- Cape Coast highway in the Central Region.

The accident occurred after a head-on collision between a petrol tanker and a bus on Tuesday early morning hours.

The tanker was filled with petrol travelling from Accra to Takoradi while the bus was from Abidjan to Buduburam.

Eyewitness told the Ghana National Fire Service that the bus driver occasionally veered off his lane throughout the trip.

Ghana National Fire Service Commander told AM Show media team;

Other passengers on the passenger side of the Yutong were dismembered, in fact, they were cut into pieces.

We have been able to rescue the rescuable lives first which we have done. We have sent them to the trauma and specialist hospital. The rest have been sent to a municipal hospital nearby.

We have been able to tow the Yutong bus to a place of safety. And currently, we are receiving the lifeless body of the driver’s mate after which we will tow the tanker to a place o safety as well so that we will be able to open the traffic.
