U.K Prime Minister Boris Johnson has resigned, today, July 7, 2022, bringing an end to almost three years leadership that was full of controversy.
Johnson has made an announcement today outside Downing Street, where he stated that the process for getting a new leader of the Conservative Party should commence immediately. He said the timetable should be announced by next week. Mr. Johnson has also said he intends to remain in place until a new leader is elected.
According to Johnson, he is sad to give up the best job in the world. However, he accepts that no one is remotely indispensable.
Johnson also addressed member of his party who he believed betrayed him by saying;
At Westminster, the herd instinct is powerful and when the herd moves, it moves.
Johnson expressed his gratitude to his wife, Carrie Johnson, his children, armed forces, the National Health Service, the British Public, and Downing Street Staff.
Mr. Johnson concluded his speech by saying;
Even if things can sometimes seem dark now, our future together is golden.
