The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has stated it does not have control over factors causing price hikes in fuel. According to the authority, the prices of crude oil have gone up even on the International Market and this automatically affects the local pricing index.
Based on NPA’s statement, the petrol prices in the country may remain unstable for a while as long as the crude prices on the International Market go up. Speaking on Ghana Broadcasting Corporation Talking Point program, The Head of Economic Regulation at the NPA, Abass Ibrahim Tasunti, stated that the NPA is not immune to criticisms by fuel consumers, mainly for petroleum, concerning the price hikes on the local market. He further said that NPA has no otherwise but to continue working in tandem with the prices on the international market level.
